Bison Wordmark Logo

Since its inception in 1890, North Dakota State University has had a long and proud history of success. As the school's athletics program grew, so did its iconic brand. The Bison wordmark logo is one of the most recognizable symbols associated with NDSU and has become an integral part of its identity.

The first iteration of this logo was created in 1965 when John Fiebiger designed a simple bison head silhouette for use on athletic uniforms and other merchandise. This original design was used until 1994, when it underwent several changes to modernize its look while maintaining some elements from earlier versions, such as retaining the same font style for “BISON” lettering across all iterations since 1965 (with minor adjustments).

In 2009, North Dakota State released an updated version that featured bolder lines to give more definition to each element within the logo, including adding shading around both eyes, which gave them greater depth than before while also creating better contrast between light & dark areas making it easier to recognize at a distance or small sizes like on apparel tags or web icons, etc. Additionally, they removed unnecessary details like fur texture from previous designs, giving the overall mark a cleaner appearance compared to prior ones without sacrificing any visual impact necessary to create strong brand recognition among fans and alumni alike!

In recent years, there have been slight modifications made. Still, these remain primarily unnoticeable unless you compare different versions – even then, only a trained eye could spot differences due to the subtlety involved. Ultimately, no matter how much time passes, one thing remains certain: the Bison Wordmark Logo will always be synonymous with the pride and excellence of being part of the NDSU family!
