Black Bears Alternate Logo

Maine Black Bears fans, rejoice! The University of Maine has just unveiled its new alternate logo for the 2020-2021 season to celebrate the team's long history. This marks a momentous occasion for Maine sports fans as it is the first time in over 20 years that our beloved Black Bears have used an alternate logo.

The original design was created in 1995 and featured a bear’s head facing forward with its mouth open wide, surrounded by two stars and three stripes representing Maine’s state flag. It quickly became popular among students, faculty members, and alumni due to its unique look compared to other collegiate logos. However, after nearly 25 years of use, it had become outdated, so they decided it was time for an update while still keeping some elements from the original design intact.

The updated version features a black bear standing upright on all four legs with his arms outstretched towards each side of him; this symbolizes strength and power, both qualities we associate with our athletic teams here at UMaine! Additionally, there are now five stars surrounding him instead of two (again representing our state flag), as well as several shades of blue throughout, which give off a more modern feel than before – something that will surely be appreciated by many people who have followed this program since its inception back in 1895!

Overall, this new logo will bring excitement to all associated with UMaine athletics; whether you're an alumnus or current student cheering on your favorite team from afar, you can now show your support by wearing apparel featuring these fresh yet classic designs proudly displayed across them!
