Lumberjacks Primary Logo
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks have a long and storied history in the NCAA, founded in 1923. But what many sports fans may not know is that the school's primary logo has gone through several iterations over its nearly century-long existence. Let’s examine how this iconic symbol of college athletics has evolved since its inception!
The original logo was created shortly after the school was established, featuring an axe with three stars above it to represent Texas and SFA’s home state of Louisiana. This design stayed relatively unchanged until 1959, when it underwent some minor changes; most notably, two stars were removed from above the axe to reflect better SFA's Lone Star State roots (the third star remains). In 1967, yet another update occurred as part of their new “Lumberjack Pride” campaign, which emphasized athletic prowess more than before. Hence, they added an orange football helmet to their emblem for extra flair!
The latest iteration came about in 2003 when they decided to modernize their brand by introducing bolder colors and sharper lines throughout all aspects, including this beloved logo; thus giving us today's version seen everywhere around campus or on TV screens during games broadcasted nationally across America (and beyond!).
While there have certainly been many changes made over time – both big & small - one thing that will never change is Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks' commitment towards excellence within collegiate athletics, something embodied ideally within each incarnation of this timeless iconography!
