Mountaineers Alternate Logo
The Appalachian State Mountaineers have a long and storied history in the NCAA, with many fans remembering their incredible 2007 upset of Michigan. But what some may not know is that this beloved college football team has had several different logos over the years. Let’s take a look at how these alternate logos have evolved throughout Appalachian State’s time as an NCAA member school.
The first logo used by the Mountaineers was introduced in 1972 when they joined Division I-AA (now known as FCS). It featured two mountains on either side of an “A” for Appalachian, with a blue star centered above it all representing excellence and success. This logo would remain in use until 1997 when it was replaced by another design featuring two crossed muskets behind an outline of North Carolina to represent the state's heritage and military service members from its past wars.
In 2003, yet another new logo appeared for ASU; this one featured three mountain peaks behind a large “A” which represented both Appalachia itself along with academic achievement associated with being part of such a prestigious institution like ASU. The colors were also changed to black/gray/white combination instead of just white & blue previously seen before then - further emphasizing strength & determination within sports teams wearing them during competition times! This version remained unchanged until 2018 when university officials opted to switch back to their original 1972 look but updated slightly so that all elements could be more clearly seen while still maintaining its classic feel overall – including adding new shades into the color palette too!
Today, you can find both versions proudly displayed across campus grounds or even worn proudly among alumni who want to show off their alma mater spirit wherever they go! Whether you are a fan from way back or just discovering what makes up Appalachian State University culture today - there will always be something special about having your own unique representation through any given mascot symbolizing prideful moments shared between generations alike... Go, Mountaineers!
