Delta Devils Primary Logo
The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils' primary logo has a long and storied history in the NCAA. The school's athletic teams have been around since 1959 when they first became members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Since then, its primary logo has gone through several iterations to reflect its proud heritage as one of the premier institutions in college sports.
The original Delta Devil mascot was created by artist Thomas "T-Bone" Walker back in 1965. He based it on an old plantation slave character named Uncle Tom from Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel “Uncle Tom’s Cabin." This design served as Mississippi Valley State's main visual identity for decades until 2003 when it was replaced with a more modernized version featuring brighter colors and sharper lines that better reflected its contemporary image. In addition to this new look, there were also changes made to some elements like adding wings behind Uncle Tom which symbolize strength and power associated with being part of an elite university athletics program.
Today, this iconic visual identity is still used proudly by all Mississippi Valley State athletic teams across various platforms such as uniforms or promotional materials; however, some slight modifications have been made over time including changing certain colors or removing certain elements like stars from previous versions so that it can remain timeless yet relevant at all times! It truly serves as a reminder not only about what makes MVSU special but also how far we've come since our humble beginnings back in 1959!
