Bears Primary Logo
The Central Arkansas Bears have been a part of the University of Central Arkansas since its founding in 1907. The university’s primary logo has gone through several revisions over the years, but it has always featured a bear as its main symbol. The first version of the logo was created in 1929 and featured an anthropomorphic bear wearing a hat and holding two flags, one with UCA’s initials on it and one with “Bears” written across it.
In 1968, this original design was updated to feature an aggressive-looking black bear standing upright on all four paws with his mouth open wide showing sharp teeth. This image is still used today as the official mascot for sports teams at UCA, although there have been some slight tweaks over time such as changing from black to brown fur or adding subtle details like claws or facial expressions that are more menacing than friendly looking.
More recently in 2008 when UCA moved up from NCAA Division II status to NCAA Division I status they decided to update their logo once again by making minor changes such as removing some details like eyes and nose while keeping true to their original concept; they also added shading behind the head so that he looks more three dimensional instead of flat against whatever background he may be placed upon! This new look is now what most people associate with Central Arkansas Bears athletics - fierce yet loyal spirit embodied within our beloved mascot: Bear!
