Falcons Wordmark Logo
The Air Force Falcons have a long and proud history of excellence in college athletics. From its first NCAA Division I-A football season in 1956 to the present day, the Air Force Academy has been an integral part of collegiate sports. One key symbol that has been associated with this program since its inception is the iconic wordmark logo, which has evolved over time to reflect both tradition and innovation within this storied institution.
The original design for the Air Force Falcons’ wordmark was created by graphic designer John Breen in 1952 as part of his work on creating a cohesive visual identity system for all branches of U.S military academies at that time – including West Point (Army), Annapolis (Navy) and Colorado Springs (Air Force). The logo featured two bold capital letters “F” set inside a triangle shape – representing strength, speed, and agility – surrounded by wings extending outward from either side meant to evoke flight or soaring above one’s limits; all elements combined into one powerful symbol that could easily be identified as belonging solely to AFA athletics teams across any sport they competed in throughout history until now.
Over time, slight modifications were made so it would better fit various mediums such as print media or digital applications but overall remained true to its classic look while still being able to capture modern trends through subtle changes like font choice or color palette shifts when necessary without compromising on what makes it unique: strong sense patriotism intertwined with fierce athletic spirit!
Today we see variations such as ‘AF Wordmark Logo 2' featuring white lettering against blue background along with additional designs like 'Falcon Head Logo' - which includes a stylized falcon head silhouette atop a traditional triangular shape - used interchangeably depending upon context/application needed but ultimately each version carries a same unmistakable message about who these athletes represent: United States Armed Forces!
