Cardinals Wordmark Logo
As sports fans, we all have our favorite teams and the logos associated with them. For loyal Lamar Cardinals fans, there’s a long history behind their NCAA wordmark logo that dates back to 1923.
The original logo used by the Lamar Cardinals featured an interlocking “LC” with a cardinal perched on top of it. This design was used for over four decades until 1965, when the school decided to update its look and adopt a new wordmark logo featuring two bold red letters: “LU." The new design was modernized but still kept its traditional roots intact as it incorporated elements from both past designs, such as curved edges on each letter which represented the wings of a bird in flight, symbolizing strength and power while also paying homage to their mascot -the Cardinal Bird!
2003 after many years of using this updated version, they changed again by adding additional details like serifs at the bottom corners of each letter and three stars inside an oval shape above them, representing excellence in academics & athletics! Since then, this has been known as one official mark for all things related to Lamar University Athletics & Academics, ensuring everyone can recognize who they are no matter where they go!
With so much history embedded into one image – it is easy to see why these symbols remain essential today, not only among current students but alumni alike who proudly display their loyalty through wearing apparel or displaying flags around campus showing off those iconic crimson-red colors everywhere!!
