Bears Wordmark Logo

The University of Northern Colorado Bears has a long and storied history that dates back to the early 20th century. Throughout its existence, the school has proudly featured its iconic wordmark logo on various sports uniforms and merchandise. The current version of this logo was introduced in 2010, but it actually has roots dating all the way back to 1976!

In 1976, UNC unveiled a new bear mascot named "Kodiak" as part of their rebranding efforts. To accompany Kodiak's debut, they also released an updated wordmark featuring bold block lettering with a unique font style that is still used today. This original design remained unchanged for nearly three decades until 2005 when UNC decided to update it slightly by adding two stars above each letter in order to represent their two NCAA Division II National Championships (1985 & 1988).

Two years later in 2007, UNC made another minor adjustment by replacing one star with an interlocking NC symbol which further solidified their identity as “Northern Colorado” Bears instead of just “Colorado” or “Bears” alone. Finally, after several small alterations over time, the university officially adopted its current version - featuring five stars above each letter -in 2010 where it remains today as one of college athletics' most recognizable logos.

Overall, the University Of Northern Colorado's Bear Wordmark Logo serves not only as a reminder of past success but more importantly beacon for future generations-one that says loud and clear that atUNC we are stronger together than ever before!
