Musketeers Primary Logo
The Xavier Musketeers' primary logo has a long and storied history that dates back to the early days of the school. The first iteration of the logo was created in 1929 when Xavier University adopted its official mascot, “Musketeer”. The original design featured a musket-toting figure in an ornate blue uniform with gold accents, holding aloft a flaming torch and wearing an X on his chest as he stood atop three crossed swords. This iconic image is still used today as part of their current primary logo.
Over time, this classic design has been tweaked to reflect changes in fashion trends or incorporate new elements into it such as adding stars or changing colors for different sports teams at the university. For example, during World War II when patriotism was high among Americans, Xavier added red stripes behind their musket-bearing soldier to signify loyalty to America’s cause overseas while also keeping true to their original theme by using blue and gold colors for all other parts of the image which had become synonymous with both school spirit and tradition over time.
Today's version features some subtle yet significant differences from its predecessor; most notably being that there are now four swords instead three crossing underneath him representing courage, strength, loyalty, and honor - values which have come to be associated with not only athletics but also academics at Xavier University since they were first established nearly 100 years ago. As such it stands out proudly amongst many other collegiate logos throughout America symbolizing excellence through dedication hard work & perseverance - something every student strives towards achieving during their tenure here no matter what field they pursue upon graduation.
