Hoyas Primary Logo
The Georgetown Hoyas are a college basketball team that has been around since 1907, and their primary logo has changed throughout the years. The first logo for the Hoyas was created in 1945 and featured an image of a hound dog wearing a hat with “Georgetown” written on it. This design remained until 1971 when it was replaced by an updated version featuring the same hound dog but with more detail added to its face, as well as different lettering above and below its head.
In 1979, after several other minor changes had been made over time, the current primary logo for Georgetown University's athletic teams was adopted – this is known today as "the Hoya Saxa" symbol. It features two interlocking Gs in blue which represent both school colors (blue & gray), along with three stars arranged in a triangle at their center representing each of Georgetown's core values: faithfulness to God; justice; and service to others. This iconic mark is seen on all official university merchandise including t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, etc., making it one of America’s most recognizable sports logos!
Today this classic emblem stands proudly alongside some newer designs such as our secondary mascot - Jack The Bulldog - who can be seen cheering his team from courtside during games or outfitted onto apparel like hoodies or backpacks sold by retailers across campus! Additionally, there have also been special edition logos released occasionally such as those related specifically to big events like March Madness tournaments where they feature unique artwork depicting our mascot surrounded by bold graphics that capture both excitement surrounding these occasions while still remaining true to original branding identity established so many decades ago!
