Bears Wordmark Logo

The Baylor Bears wordmark logo is one of the most iconic logos in college sports. It has been around since the early 1920s and has gone through several iterations over the years. The current version, which was adopted in 2017, features a bold font with classic lettering that conveys strength and stability.

The original design for the Baylor Bears wordmark logo was created by legendary graphic designer Walter Hagen back in 1923. At that time, it featured a more traditional serif font with an interlocking “B” and “U” on either side of an open-ended circle representing unity between students and alumni. In 1961, this design underwent its first major overhaul when illustrator Jules Chatelain updated it to include two crossed swords beneath a shield bearing both letters as well as stars at each corner to represent courage and honor among student-athletes competing for Baylor University's teams.

Over time, other minor changes have been made to create subtle variations but all versions have remained true to their roots while also reflecting modern sensibilities about collegiate athletics branding standards today. As such, the latest iteration of this beloved emblem still embodies everything we love about our school spirit - loyalty, pride, tradition - yet looks forward to future generations who will continue to carry on these values into perpetuity.
