Warriors Wordmark Logo
The University of Hawaii Warriors have been proudly representing the state of Hawaii since 1909, and their iconic wordmark logo has been part of that tradition for nearly as long. The original logo was designed in 1923 by a local Honolulu artist named Edward Reeler, who created it to represent the spirit and pride that comes with being a Warrior.
Since then, the Warriors' wordmark has gone through several iterations over its more than 90-year history. In 1930, an updated version was introduced featuring two swords crossed behind an “H” shaped shield with a sunburst above it – this design remains largely unchanged today. In 1953 another minor update added green shading to give depth to the design while still maintaining its classic look and feel.
In 2003 UH unveiled yet another revision which featured bolder lines around both letters as well as thicker serifs on each letterform; this version remained until 2013 when UH brought back Reeler's original 1923 design but modernized slightly for 21st-century audiences by adding beveling effects along all edges and changing some colors from black/green/goldenrod yellow to navy blue/green/silver gray respectively. This new look is now used across all athletic teams at UH including football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, etc…
Today’s iteration stands out amongst other college logos due not only to its unique shape but also because of how closely linked it is with Hawaiian culture - something which cannot be said about many other collegiate logos throughout America! It serves not only as a reminder of what makes us warriors (our strength & resilience) but also our connection back home in paradise here on Earth: Hawaiʻi Nei!
