Demon Deacons Wordmark Logo
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons wordmark logo has a long and storied history. The original logo was created in 1923 when the school changed its name from Wake Forest College to Wake Forest University. The original design featured an image of a deacon holding his Bible above his head with wings on either side, symbolizing faithfulness and strength. This classic look remained unchanged until 1994, when it underwent minor adjustments, such as adding more detail to the wings and changing the font style for “Wake Forest” from italicized serif typeface to a sans-serif typeface for better readability.
In 2007, another redesign took place that included graphic elements like a shield shape around the “Deacons” text and color changes, including replacing black with gold; this version also added two stars at each end of the shield representing excellence in academics and athletics, respectively. In 2017, another update was made by introducing an updated font style and other subtle modifications, like making slight alterations in letter spacing between words within “Demon Deacons” text while maintaining the overall visual integrity of previous versions.
Today's current iteration is still based on the same concept. Still, it features bolder lines giving it a modern feel while keeping its true essence intact, which makes this latest version one of the most recognizable logos among college sports teams nationwide. Even after so many years since its inception, the iconic imagery remains timelessly relevant due to its strong connection between university values and athletic spirit embodied by its faithful mascot – Demon Deacon!
