The South Dakota Coyotes have long been a beloved team in the eyes of sports fans, and their iconic wordmark logo has become synonymous with the franchise. The logo was first introduced in 2004 when the school changed its name from the University of South Dakota to the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. Since then, it has undergone several changes and iterations to keep up with modern trends while maintaining its classic feel.

The original design featured an italicized font depicting a coyote howling at the moon – still used today but slightly modified for a more contemporary look. Over time, they’ve added subtle touches such as adding stars around each letter or incorporating different colors into certain elements like blue for water or yellow for dunes – all nods to their home state’s natural beauty and landscape.

In 2015, they made some significant changes by introducing bolder fonts along with brighter colors like red and orange, which better complemented their mascot design; this version included additional details such as claws on either side of the “Coyotes” text, which further enhanced its visual appeal among fans everywhere! Recently, in 2020, however, we saw yet another iteration featuring smoother lines throughout, plus some minor tweaks here & there, making it even more pleasing on both digital & print platforms alike!

All these updates over time prove that despite being one of college football's oldest teams (founded in 1902), The Coyotes remain committed to keeping things fresh while paying homage to their rich history through timeless designs - something many other teams could learn from!
