The Northeast Conference (NEC) is a Division I collegiate athletic conference that was founded in 1981. The conference is made up of 11 member schools, primarily located in the Northeastern United States. These schools compete in a variety of sports, including basketball, football, and soccer, among others.
Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) was one of the founding members of the NEC. Their wordmark logo has gone through several changes since the conference's inception. The original logo featured the school's initials, "CCSU," in a bold, block font with a blue and white color scheme. In 2004, the logo was updated to include the full name of the university, "Central Connecticut State University," in a more modern font. The color scheme also changed to blue and gray, giving the logo a sleeker and more professional look.
Another founding member of the NEC is Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU). Their wordmark logo has also undergone significant changes over the years. The original logo, used from 1981 to 2004, featured the school's initials, "FDU," in a simple, all-caps font with a blue and white color scheme. In 2004, the logo was updated to include the full name of the university, "Fairleigh Dickinson University," in a more modern font. The color scheme was also changed to a darker blue and white, giving the logo a more sophisticated and timeless look.
One of the newer members of the NEC is Merrimack College, which joined the conference in 2019. The school's wordmark logo is a bit more unique compared to the other teams in the conference. The logo features the school's initials, "MC," in a bold and modern font with a navy blue and gold color scheme. The use of the gold color adds a touch of elegance to the logo, making it stand out among the other teams in the conference.
