Red Storm Alternate Logo
The St. John’s Red Storm alternate logo has a long and interesting history. The original Red Storm logo was created in the late 1990s for the university’s basketball team, which had just been rebranded from “St. John's University Basketball Team” to “Red Storm Basketball Team” in 1995 due to its association with their mascot, Johnny Thunderbird (a mythical bird).
Since then, there have been several variations of the original logo that have emerged over time as well as additional logos used by other athletic teams at St. John's University such as baseball and soccer teams among others. In 2011, a new version of the classic design debuted featuring an updated font style along with a more modernized color palette consisting of red and white hues instead of black lettering on gold background; this is now referred to as "the new look".
In recent years however, different versions have come out including one that features an eagle-like creature holding onto lightning bolts – representing both power and speed – while another includes two crossed swords in place of thunderbirds wings which symbolizes strength through unity amongst athletes who compete under this crest; all these logos are part of what makes up today's official identity for St Johns Redstorm Athletics program!
