Colonels Alternate Logo
The Eastern Kentucky Colonels have a long and storied history of athletic excellence, and their alternate logo is no exception. For decades, the Colonels have used various logos to represent their school spirit in different ways. From classic crests to modern mascots, the EKU Colonels’ alternate logo has evolved over time but still remains an important part of the university’s identity.
The earliest known version of an Eastern Kentucky University crest was designed in 1918 by professor A.H Bittinger for use on official documents such as diplomas and letterheads. This design featured a shield with crossed rifles behind it symbolizing strength through defense; at its center was a large “EKU" monogram encircled by laurel leaves representing victory or success The original colors were black-and-white which later changed to blue-and-gold when they officially adopted these as their school colors in 1923.
In 1965, EKU unveiled its first mascot – Colonel Ebenezer Eagle – who represented both courage and honor while also paying homage to the university's military roots during World War II when many students served overseas with distinction. The current iteration of this character features him wearing his signature tri-corner hat accompanied by two stars on each side that stand for loyalty & patriotism respectively; he is also often seen carrying either a musket or sword depending on what type of event he appears at (i.,e sporting events vs alumni gatherings). In 1976, this mascot received another update where instead of being drawn directly onto paper like before it now had more detail added via airbrush techniques giving him more depth & realism than ever before!
Over time other symbols such as swords & shields (representing protection), eagles (symbolizing power), flames/torches(signifying knowledge)& anchors(standing for stability)have all been incorporated into various versions making them even more unique from one another yet still maintaining consistency throughout each rendition. Together these elements help create an overall look that embodies not only pride but tradition too - something every fan can appreciate!
As we move forward into 2020 there are sure to be new iterations released so stay tuned - you never know what exciting changes may come next!
