Fighting Illini Alternate Logo
The Illinois Fighting Illini alternate logo has a long and storied history. It is one of the most recognizable logos in college sports, having been around since the early 1900s when it was first used as an emblem for the University of Illinois athletics teams. The current version of the logo was introduced in 2008 and features three white I’s with blue outlines placed on a navy blue background, which is meant to represent unity among all Illini fans.
The original design featured two red I’s with black outlines on either side of an orange center circle that contained the words “Illinois Fighting Illini” inside it. This logo served as a symbol for the university spirit from 1906-1917 before being replaced by another more modernized version which included two red blocks containing three white stars each above and below text reading “Fighting Illini Athletic Association." This secondary design remained until 1968 when yet another redesign occurred featuring only one block containing five stars arranged within it instead of two separate ones like its predecessor had utilized previously.
Finally, this iconic look changed once again in 2008 when it underwent its biggest transformation yet; changing both colors (red to navy) and layout (two blocks to one). Although there have been several different versions over time, they all remain unified under their shared theme: representing strength through unity while also honoring our school's rich athletic heritage at the same time!
