Hokies Wordmark Logo

The Virginia Tech Hokies wordmark logo has been a part of the university's identity since its inception in 1872. It is an iconic symbol representing the school's spirit and pride and its students, alumni, faculty, staff, and fans. Then-student Charles Linton designed the original wordmark in 1896 to represent what he described as “the highest ideals” of his alma mater: “Truthful living; Unselfish giving; Ever striving for excellence."

Since then, there have been several iterations of the logo over time, with minor changes made to reflect modern design trends or commemorate special occasions like anniversaries or championships won by sports teams at Virginia Tech. In 2003 it underwent a significant redesign that incorporated more contemporary fonts and subtle color variations that better reflected traditional hues associated with VT athletics such as orange & maroon. This version remains unchanged today, although some elements have shifted slightly over time, including font size & placement on certain items like apparel & merchandise sold through official outlets owned by VT Athletics Department or other affiliated groups such as Alumni Associations etc.

Overall though, regardless if you are looking at one from 1896 or 2021, they all still embody the same core values behind them, which is why this particular mark continues to remain so beloved among many generations associated w/Virginia Tech University even after nearly 150 years!
