Governors Alternate Logo
The Austin Peay Governors have a long and proud history, with their alternate logo playing an important role in that. The school's original mascot was the "Governors," which was first introduced in 1927. Since then, the university has gone through several iterations of its alternate logos to reflect changes in style and culture over time.
In 1965, Austin Peay unveiled its first official athletic logo featuring a shield with two crossed swords behind it and two stars at the top of the shield representing excellence on both sides of athletics — academic success as well as athletic success. This design remained until 1991 when it was replaced by another classic version featuring three interlocking stars symbolizing unity among students, faculty members, and alumni alike.
The most recent iteration came about after extensive research into what would best represent Austin Peay's spirit today: a strong sense of pride for being part of such an amazing institution combined with dedication to achieving greatness both inside and outside academics or athletics settings alike! In 2013 this new look debuted ––a stylized AP monogram framed by laurel leaves—as an homage to past designs while also modernizing them for future generations appreciation!
This updated design has been embraced warmly not only on campus grounds but across all levels; from local high schools that use our colors & symbols proudly during sporting events down even further into elementary classrooms where kids learn about collegiate sports teams too! With such positive reception, we can confidently say that our alternative logo will continue bringing us together under one banner no matter how far away we may be geographically or emotionally from each other...GO, GOVERNORS!!
