Panthers Primary Logo

For sports fans in Wisconsin, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers have a long and storied history. The iconic primary logo of the UWM Panthers has been around since their inception in 1906, and it’s one that many people recognize today. In this blog post, we’ll look at how this classic design came to be and some interesting facts about its evolution.

The original UWM Panther logo was designed by artist Charles Ebert in 1906 when Milwaukee Normal School (the school's former name) began competing athletically against other schools throughout the Midwest region. This design featured an image of a black panther with yellow eyes on top of an orange circle that represented Milwaukee Normal School's colors at the time - orange and black for strength and courage, respectively. Over time, however, these colors changed to blue & gold, so you'll see those two hues used today instead!

In 1936, another artist named William Hines reworked Ebert’s original design into what is now known as “The Classic Logo." It features two fierce-looking panthers facing each other while encircled by flames representing victory, all set atop an oval shield bearing both team names, "UW-M" or "Panthers." This version would become synonymous with UWM athletics until 2005, when they unveiled their new modernized version featuring just one panther head inside a circular frame surrounded by four stars representing excellence within academics & athletics alike!

Despite having gone through several iterations more than 100 years ago, the current UW Milwaukee Panther logo still carries much nostalgia from past generations who remember it fondly. From dedicated alumni to passionate students cheering them on during every game – there are few things more recognizable across campus than seeing everyone wearing apparel featuring our beloved mascot!
