Jaguars Alternate Logo
The University of South Alabama Jaguars has a long and proud history in the NCAA. As one of the original Sun Belt Conference members, they’ve been competing since 1976. Over their 40+ year existence, there has been an array of alternate logos used to represent their athletics program. Today we take a look back at some classic South Alabama Jaguar logo designs throughout its history!
The first alternate logo for the Jaguars was introduced in 1980 as part of an effort to modernize its brand identity. This design featured a jaguar head with two eyes peering out from underneath its ears and whiskers that extended around both sides of its face. The color palette included teal blue, black, white, and yellow which gave it an eye-catching yet subtle appearance that would become iconic over time!
In 1994 another new logo was unveiled by South Alabama Athletics featuring a more aggressive-looking jaguar head with fangs bared and teeth showing along with sharp claws extending outward from each paw – this version also had some red added into the mix for contrast against all other colors used on previous logos (teal blue/black/white & yellow). While not quite as popular as earlier versions due to being less “friendly” in nature – it still served well during those years until 1997 when things changed once again…
In 1997 came what many consider today's most recognizable version: A fierce-looking jaguar mascot wearing sunglasses while standing atop two crossed swords - designed by former student artist Robert Cooksey - this particular image quickly became synonymous with USA Athletics ever since then; even making appearances on t-shirts worn by fans at games or simply just walking around campus!
Finally after almost 20 years without any changes made – 2017 saw yet another update come about where now instead we see three different variations depending upon context: One feature just our beloved mascot alone while others show him alongside either letter spelling out SOUTH ALABAMA or words like JAGS UNITED written across them respectively; all three having unique characteristics but maintaining same overall theme established back in '97 nonetheless...
Through various iterations over four decades worth spanning time periods ranging from the 80s till the present day - The University Of South Alabama's athletic programs have seen multiple incarnations come forth bearing likenesses honoring great traditions held dear here within our community alike so here’s hoping future generations continue embracing these symbols proudly representing us wherever they may go next too!!
