Ducks Alternate Logo
The Oregon Ducks' alternate logo history is one that has been evolving since the school's inception in 1876. The first logo was a simple yellow “O” with an orange beak and webbed feet, which was used until 1967. In 1967, the university adopted its current mascot of a duck wearing green and yellow feathers on its head as well as wings on either side of its body. This became known as the "Fighting Duck" logo and it remains to this day one of the most recognizable logos associated with college sports teams across America.
In 1997, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield introduced an updated version of the Fighting Duck for use by Oregon Athletics called “Mighty Oregon” or simply “MO". This new design featured a more muscular-looking duck wearing sunglasses while holding up two fingers in victory sign; this symbolized both strength and confidence for those who wore it proudly around campus or at sporting events throughout Eugene. The Mighty Oregon era lasted from 1997 until 2011 when another redesign occurred under then-athletic director Pat Kilkenny's leadership team: introducing what is now known affectionately among fans as "Puddles." Puddles features yet another variation on our beloved mascot but instead has him standing atop his own block O lettering; representing not only strength but also the unity between all members within our athletic department family—both past present & future!
Today we see many variations upon these iconic designs being worn around campus & at games alike; ranging from traditional iterations like MO to newer ones such us Puddles (as mentioned above) or even special edition versions created specifically for certain occasions/events (like last year's Rose Bowl game). No matter what iteration you choose though—the fact that they have remained so popular over time speaks volumes about how much pride students & alumni alike take in their University identity!
