Norse Wordmark Logo

As a sports fan, you know the importance of logos and wordmarks in representing teams. The Northern Kentucky Norse has a long history with their logo that dates back to 1996 when they adopted it as part of their identity. Over the years, there have been numerous variations on the iconic design, but its core elements remain consistent: an aggressive Norse warrior helmet surrounded by two crossed swords.

Local graphic artist Mark Auerbach designed the original version. It featured a fierce-looking Viking wearing an ornate helmet flanked by two crossed swords set against a black background with yellow trimming around each element. This version was used until 2001 when it underwent minor changes to reflect NKU's new colors – blue and gold – which replaced green as its primary color scheme.

In 2012, NKU unveiled yet another redesign of its logo featuring more modern elements, such as smoother lines for both the sword hilts and Viking headgear while also adding white accents throughout for more excellent contrast against darker backgrounds like navy or black jerseys or other apparel pieces worn during games or events hosted on campus grounds. These subtle tweaks gave fans something fresh without straying too far from what made them love this classic look so much over all these years!

Today’s Northern Kentucky Norse wordmark is still inspired by Auerbach’s original design. Still, it includes additional flourishes such as curved edges along each letterform (representing motion) plus thicker serifs (for strength). Combined, these small details give off an aura of power & confidence — perfect traits for any team looking to make waves within NCAA Division I athletics!
