Cyclones Alternate Logo
The Iowa State Cyclones have a long and storied history of alternate logos. The first logo was adopted in 1897 when the school’s athletic teams were officially named the “Cyclones”. This original logo featured a cyclone with lightning bolts radiating outward from its center. Over time, this design has evolved to become one of the most recognizable logos in college athletics today.
In 2009, Iowa State unveiled an updated version of its classic cyclone logo that incorporated more modern elements such as bolder colors and sharper lines while still maintaining some aspects of its original design like its iconic lightning bolt patterning around its circumference. This new look quickly became popular among fans and is now widely used across all sports programs at Iowa State University.
Most recently in 2018, another update was made to further refine the look by introducing an even sharper image with brighter colors for greater visibility on digital platforms such as social media or websites. These changes help ensure that no matter where you are seeing it - whether on television or online - everyone will be able to recognize it instantly as being associated with The Cyclones! With each iteration, Iowa state continues to keep its beloved mascot alive through these unique designs that represent both tradition and innovation simultaneously.
