Cougars Alternate Logo
The Washington State Cougars have a long and storied history of alternate logos. The earliest logo was adopted in 1895 when the school changed its name from the Agricultural College of Washington to what we now know as Washington State University. This original logo featured an image of George Washington flanked by two cougars with a shield background, symbolizing strength and protection for the university’s students.
In 2000, WSU unveiled its first modernized version of this original design; it included several minor changes to make it more contemporary while still honoring its roots in tradition. For example, instead of having two cougars on either side like before they replaced one with an eagle which is symbolic of the freedom and liberty that college education provides students who attend universities such as WSU. In addition to this change, they also updated some aspects such as making George's hat pointier than before along with other small details throughout the crest-like emblem itself
Most recently in 2016, another update was made where yet again changes were made but kept true to form while introducing new elements into play; most notably replacing both animals (the eagle & cougar)with just one larger abstracted version that looks almost futuristic yet still remaining faithful enough so viewers can recognize what animal it is supposed to represent: namely ‘Cougars’ -WSI's mascot since 1927! All these updates over time show how committed WSU has been towards preserving its legacy through these various versions or redesigns over time showing how much pride they take within itself representing not only itself but all colleges across America too!
