Rebels Alternate Logo
The UNLV Rebels have had a long and storied history in the NCAA, and their alternate logo has been an integral part of that story. The first iteration of the Rebel’s alternate logo was created in 1982 when UNLV joined Division I-A football. This version featured a bold red “R” with two crossed pistols underneath it, representing the school’s tie to its home state of Nevada.
In 1996, UNLV updated its look by introducing a new secondary logo featuring an image of Johnny Reb—the mascot for both University High School (now called Las Vegas High School) and later adopted as one-half of the university's official mascots—holding two guns below his chin while wearing a wide-brimmed hat with stars on either side. This design was used until 2003 when it was replaced by another more modernized version that features Johnny Reb holding only one gun beneath him while still wearing his signature hat but now sporting three white stars instead just two on either side.
In 2018, yet another update to this classic design saw some minor changes including adding additional details such as shading around Johnny Reb's eyes along with small patches sewn onto his uniform shirt that feature images from previous versions; these include four blue stripes going down each arm sleeve plus five points at each end near where they meet up at shoulder level respectively). Finally, there is also what appears to be gold embroidery outlining much larger stars located directly above where he holds onto pistol handlebars which can be seen clearly against the dark background surrounding them all together making for quite a striking visual effect overall!
With over three decades worth of different logos under its belt since first being introduced back in 1982; today fans can proudly show off their allegiance no matter what era they hail from thanks largely due to those iconic symbols associated so strongly throughout years past and present-day alike – Go Rebels!!
