Racers Wordmark Logo
The Murray State Racers have a long and storied history, both on the court and off. As one of the most successful teams in college basketball, they are well known for their iconic wordmark logo which has been around since 1951. The current version is an updated take on this classic design that has served as a source of pride for generations of Racer fans.
The original logo was designed to be bold and powerful, with two thick black lines framing the letters "MSU" in red block lettering. This design was intended to convey strength and determination; qualities that were necessary for success during those early days when collegiate sports were still relatively new in Kentucky. In 1971, it underwent its first major update when it adopted an italicized font style with thinner lines surrounding each letter – a look that still remains today as part of its official branding guidelines.
Over time other elements such as stars or stripes have been added or removed from various versions but overall its main components remain unchanged: bold red typeface surrounded by thin black borders - all paying homage to Murray State’s rich athletic heritage while also staying true to modern trends in graphic design principles.
While many universities have come up with logos over the years, few can lay claim like Murray State does about having such an enduring symbol representing them across multiple decades. It's no wonder why so many students, alumni, staff members & supporters alike proudly display this emblem whenever they get together!
