The Drake Bulldogs have a long and storied history in NCAA athletics, and their wordmark logo has been an integral part of that legacy. The iconic bulldog head silhouette was first used by the university in 1932 when they adopted it as the official athletic logo for all sports teams. It was designed to represent strength, courage, and determination – values that are still at the core of Drake Athletics today.

Over the years, there have been several variations on this classic design. In the 1972-1973 season, a blue outline around white lettering replaced black lettering inside a red shield with three stars above it as seen before then. This look lasted until 1995 when an updated version featuring a bolder typeface was introduced which is still used today by most teams across all sports programs at Drake University.

In addition to its traditional use on uniforms, apparel, signage, etc., this recognizable symbol can be found throughout campus buildings such as residence halls or even student lounges where students gather together during game days or other events. Its presence serves not only to remind everyone who we are but also what our institution stands for - excellence both academically and athletically!
