Knights Alternate Logo

For Bellarmine University’s sports teams, the Knights have been a source of pride and school spirit since their inception. With that in mind, it is no surprise that they have had multiple alternate logos over the years to represent their team. From a knightly shield to an updated version of the classic mascot, here is a brief history of Bellarmine’s alternate logo evolution:

The first iteration was introduced in 1994 when Bellarmine officially adopted “Knights” as its official mascot. The design featured a knightly shield with two crossed swords underneath it and “Bellarmine Knights” written across the top half. This logo quickly became popular among students and alumni alike for its traditional look and feel.

In 2000, however, things changed drastically when new athletic director Mike Geddes wanted to give his teams an edgier look by introducing more modern designs into their visual identity system – starting with updating the original Knight Shield logo from 1994 into something more contemporary-looking yet still recognizable as part of Bellamrine's heritage brand image. The result? A sleek new design featuring bolder colors (black & red) plus sharper lines - which ultimately gave birth to what we now know today as "The Modern Knight."

Finally, in 2016 another update was made on this beloved symbol - this time taking inspiration from classic medieval heraldry while maintaining some aspects from previous versions such as a strong color palette & sharp edges. This resulted in what we now call "the Stylized Knight;" which can be seen on various promotional materials around campus ever since then!

All these changes may seem minor but they all serve one purpose: to keep up with changing times while staying true to our roots! We are proud of how far our little university has come throughout these years; and even prouder knowing that every single one of us plays an important role in shaping our future success!
