Knights Primary Logo

For over a century, the Bellarmine Knights have been an integral part of college sports. From their origins as a small Catholic university in Louisville, Kentucky to becoming one of the top NCAA Division I programs in the country, they have established themselves as a major force on and off the field. With that said, it is no surprise that their iconic primary logo has also become synonymous with success and excellence.

The original Bellarmine Knight was created back in 1922 when Charles Hargrave was hired by Father John A O’Hara to design what would become known as “the knight” for use on athletic uniforms at Bellarmine University (then called St Xavier College). The initial design featured two knights facing each other atop horses while holding swords aloft – representing courage and strength both physically and spiritually. This image quickly became popular among students who proudly wore it during games or around campus - even before officially joining any teams!

Since then there have been several iterations of this logo throughout its history including versions featuring just one knight or two knights side-by-side instead of face-to-face; however, none were ever able to replace its classic look which remains unchanged today despite numerous redesigns over time due largely in part because fans felt so strongly about preserving its traditional symbolism within athletics culture at large. As such, many believe this particular version will continue being used long into future generations whereupon we can all remember fondly our beloved school mascot: The noble Knight!
