Leopards Alternate Logo
The Lafayette Leopards are a Division I NCAA program that competes in the Patriot League. The school has had its fair share of success over the years and is one of the most storied programs in college sports. While their primary logo is iconic, they also have an alternate logo that has been around for many decades and continues to be used today.
The original version of this alternate logo was designed by artist Jack Fronczek back in 1957 when he was commissioned to create a new look for the team's basketball uniforms. His design featured two leopards facing each other with their tails intertwined above them, creating an image reminiscent of two lions guarding a shield or crest symbolizing strength and unity among teammates on the court or off it. This classic design still stands out as one of his best works from those days; however, it wasn't until much later that it became associated with Lafayette athletics as its official second mark - some say due to pressure from alumni who wanted something more modern than what Fronczek had created nearly 50 years earlier!
Fast forward several decades later when designer John Moore redesigned this classic emblem into what we know today: A fierce-looking leopard head surrounded by flames atop an oval shape representing both power & protection – perfect for any athlete looking to make a statement on game day! This version made its debut during the 2008-09 season’s home opener against Harvard University where players wore jerseys featuring Moore’s updated take on Fronczek’s original concept while fans cheered loudly throughout the stadium wearing newly released t-shirts adorned with the same fiery feline face emblazoned across the front chest area…and rest they say is history!
Today, not only can you find this powerful mascot adorning all types of apparel (from hats & hoodies down jackets) but also gracing walls at athletic facilities located across campus including Kirby Sports Center which houses men's & women's basketball teams' respective locker rooms alongside weight room where athletes train hard daily towards achieving excellence both academically athletically alike...so go ahead show your Leopard pride wherever life takes ya!!
