Cowboys Alternate Logo
The Oklahoma State Cowboys have a long and proud history of athletics, but the alternate logo that has become so iconic to the school is relatively new. The first iteration of this logo was introduced in 1983 when then-athletic director Myron Roderick decided to make a change from their traditional cowboy head image. This new design featured an orange circle with two black lines intersecting at its center, forming an “O” for Oklahoma State University. Inside the circle were five stars representing each letter in OSU and a lasso surrounding it all as if ready to rope something in – perhaps victory!
This alternate logo quickly gained popularity among students and fans alike who saw it as more modern than their traditional cowboy head symbol while still paying homage to OSU’s western heritage. It also became widely recognized due to its use on merchandise such as hats, t-shirts, stickers, and other memorabilia-related items which helped spread awareness about Oklahoma State Athletics even further across America's heartland region where they are located.
Today this iconic orange & black O remains one of the college sport's most recognizable logos thanks largely due credit given to former Athletic Director Myron Roderick for having had enough vision back then to create something that would stand the test of time like no other before or since! From football helmets during games to big rivalry matchups between rivals like Texas Longhorns or OU Sooners; rest assured you can always count on seeing "OSU" proudly displayed somewhere nearby cheering them onto yet another victory over opponents both old & young alike!
