Bulldogs Alternate Logo
The University of Georgia Bulldogs have a long and storied history in college sports, and their logo has been part of that tradition for many years. The alternate logos used by the Bulldogs over the years are just as iconic as their primary logo, each representing different eras in UGA’s athletic program.
The first alternate Bulldog logo was created in 1967 when legendary coach Vince Dooley took over the football team at UGA. This version featured an image of a bulldog with its head tilted back howling into the night sky surrounded by stars and stripes to represent America's military forces overseas at that time. In 1981, this design was replaced with one featuring a more traditional-looking bulldog wearing a red collar with white trim around its neck standing on top of “G” shaped letters which represented Georgia's home state initials. This became known as "Dooley's Dawg" after Coach Dooley left his post at UGA following his retirement from coaching duties there in 1988; it remains one of the most popular designs among fans today due to its classic look and timeless appeal.
In 1996, another new design emerged for use on select apparel items such as hats or t-shirts featuring an angry-looking bulldog sporting sunglasses while holding two crossed American flags behind him – this version is still seen occasionally today but not nearly so often since it is considered somewhat outdated now compared to other newer designs available from licensed vendors like Nike or Adidas who produce official gear for many collegiate teams across America including those affiliated with universities like Georgia where they offer unique looks inspired by school spirit through distinct graphics associated solely within each individual institution. All these various styles were designed specifically to evoke emotion amongst students & alumni alike while simultaneously creating brand recognition throughout all levels of collegiate athletics nationwide!
