The Appalachian State Mountaineers have a rich history of athletic success and are renowned for their iconic wordmark logo. The logo has become synonymous with the school’s spirit, pride, and tradition over the years. It is one of the most recognizable logos in college sports today.

The first version of this classic design was created back in 1972 when Appalachian State joined NCAA Division I athletics as an independent member school. At that time, there were only two primary colors used: black and gold—the same colors found on the state flag of North Carolina where Appalachian State is located. The original design featured a bold “A” inside a circle with “Appalachian St” written around it in all capital letters using Old English font style to give it an old-school feel that still resonates today among fans across generations who cheer on their beloved Mountaineers teams each year during football season or at any other sporting event they attend throughout the year!
