Lions Alternate Logo
The Texas A&M Commerce Lions have a long and storied history in the NCAA, with their iconic logo being recognized by fans all around the country. But what many may not know is that there was once an alternate logo for the Lions that has since been retired.
In 2007, Texas A&M Commerce decided to update its look and unveiled an alternate logo featuring a lion holding two swords crossed behind its back. The design also featured “Texas A&M University–Commerce” written above it in script font as well as “Lions” written below it in bold font. This new look was meant to represent both strength and power while still keeping with the school tradition of having lions on their branding materials.
Unfortunately, this new design wasn't very popular among students or alumni so after just one year of use they decided to go back to using their original lion head emblem which had been used since 1971 when they first joined Division II athletics (now known as Division I FCS). Though short-lived, this unique take on the classic Lion Head emblem will always be remembered by those who were able to witness it during its brief existence at Texas A&M Commerce!
