Lions Alternate Logo

We’re looking at the history of the alternate logo for Southeastern Louisiana Lions NCAA. This exciting story dates back to 1997 when Southeastern Louisiana University first adopted its athletic identity.

The school had been known as SLU (Southeastern Louisiana) since its founding in 1925 and was looking to create something more modern and recognizable. The mascot chosen was a lion, which led to their nickname “the Lions” being used from then on out. As part of this process, they also created an alternate logo featuring a stylized lion head with two stars above it, representing courage and strength – attributes that are essential for any successful team or athlete striving for greatness!
The original design has remained relatively unchanged over time, with only minor adjustments made here and there, such as changing colors or adding elements like text around it but still keeping accurate to the original concept established all those years ago. It has become one of the most iconic symbols associated with SELA athletics today – both on campus and off - making sure everyone knows who they root for whenever they see it proudly anywhere!
