Bobcats Alternate Logo
The Ohio Bobcats have been a proud member of the NCAA since 1906 and their logo has evolved over time to reflect the spirit of their team. The current primary logo is an orange "O" with white trim, but before that, there were several different alternate logos used throughout the years.
In 1921, a black-and-white version of what would eventually become known as “the Claw” was introduced as an alternate logo for Ohio University's athletic teams. This design featured two large claws on either side of a shield with "Ohio U." written in bold lettering above it. It remained unchanged until 1975 when it received minor updates such as adding green accents and adjusting its shape slightly to better fit modern standards for sports branding designs at that time.
The claw design was then retired in 1984 when Ohio University adopted its first official mascot: Rufus Bobcat! To celebrate this momentous occasion, they created a new set of logos featuring Rufus wearing various athletic attire along with his signature bow tie and glasses - all while holding up his paw proudly displaying the letters O H I O across them! These designs quickly became popular among fans who wanted something unique to represent their beloved school's athletics program; however, they weren't officially adopted by any teams until 1998 when men's basketball began using them exclusively during games played away from home court (as opposed to just having one or two players wear them).
In 2007 yet another redesign was released which saw some changes made such as simplifying certain elements like removing details from around Rufus' headgear area or changing colors within each image depending on whether it represented women’s sports (blue) versus men’s sports (orange). This look lasted until 2017 when we now see our current primary logo being used alongside these updated versions which feature more vibrant colors than ever before – making sure everyone knows exactly who you're rooting for no matter where you are watching from!
