Wildcats Alternate Logo

The Northwestern Wildcats have a long and distinguished history of logos, with the first officially adopted logo appearing in 1948. This original logo featured an interlocking “N” and “U” that was meant to symbolize the unity between students, faculty, alumni, and fans of the university. Since then there have been several variations on this classic design as well as some completely new designs introduced over time.

In 1997, a more modernized version of their classic logo was unveiled featuring two separate parts: a wildcat head inside an outline of Illinois state with purple accents around it. This look has become iconic for Northwestern athletics ever since its introduction over 20 years ago; however, it is not without its critics who feel that this newer design does not represent what makes Northwestern unique in comparison to other universities across America or even within Big Ten conference itself where many schools share similar mascots like Badgers or Buckeyes.

Over recent years there has also been talking about introducing alternate logos for special occasions such as Homecoming Week which could feature different colors than those typically associated with Wildcat Athletics (i.e., black & white). The idea behind these alternate logos would be to give fans something unique while still maintaining consistency throughout all official branding efforts by using recognizable elements from existing designs like fonts/shapes etcetera so they can easily identify them regardless if they are at game day event or just browsing online store looking for merchandise items related to their favorite team!
