Wildcats Wordmark Logo

The Northwestern Wildcats have a long and proud history, and the wordmark logo is an important part of that heritage. The current logo has been in use since 1995, though it has undergone some slight modifications over the years. The most recent iteration was introduced in 2017 after a redesign by Nike to modernize the look of Northwestern athletics.

The original version of the Wildcat Logo dates back to 1969 when it was first used as part of their uniforms for football games. It featured an orange-and-black shield with two crossed swords beneath it and “NU” written inside—a nod to both Northwestern University's initials as well as its mascot name: Wildcats! This design remained unchanged until 1995 when purple replaced black on all logos associated with university athletic teams; this included changing out the sword handles from black to purple too!

Over time, minor changes were made such as adding more detail or making small adjustments here or there but nothing major happened until 2017 when Nike redesigned all aspects related to NU Athletics including their iconic wordmark logo which now features a bolder font typeface along with thicker lines around each letter giving off more strength & power than before! Finally, subtle gradients have been added at either side creating depth within this classic emblem that many fans know & love today—the perfect representation for any Wildcat fan looking proudly show off their school spirit wherever they go!
