Huskies Alternate Logo
The Northern Illinois Huskies have a long and proud history of athletics, and their alternate logo is no exception. The Huskies' current alternate logo has been around since the late 1990s, but it wasn't always that way. In fact, the team has had several different logos over the years as they've changed with the times.
The first known version of an alternate logo for NIU was introduced in 1986 when they adopted a shield-style design featuring a husky head inside of it along with NIU's initials at its center. This particular design lasted until 1996 when it was replaced by another shield-style logo which featured multiple husky heads surrounding an N and I letter mark in its center. This second version would be used until 1999 when yet another new look was unveiled – this one being more modernized than those before it while still maintaining some aspects from previous designs like having two separate versions (one black & white; one red & blue).
In 2006, NIU made some slight changes to their existing alternative mark by adding additional details like stars on either side of their letter mark as well as making minor adjustments to the overall shape/structure; however, these modifications were only temporary because just two years later (2008) they released what we now know today: A sleekly designed orange circle containing three stylized white letters ‘N’ ‘I’ ‘U’ within them along with four small stars spaced evenly across each other outside border – all set against the solid black background!
This latest iteration has become synonymous not only with Northern Illinois University Athletics but also with NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision teams everywhere due to how recognizable & unique this particular mark is compared to others out there currently being used or even ones that have been retired over time - thus proving why such attention should be given whenever discussing past/present logos associated any school!
