Toreros Alternate Logo
The San Diego Toreros have a long and storied history of athletic excellence. From their NCAA Division I basketball program to the many other sports they participate in, the Toreros are an impressive force in collegiate athletics. But did you know that over the years, they’ve also had some unique alternate logos? Let’s take a look at how San Diego has changed its logo over time!
In 1997, when USD first began using an alternate logo for their teams, it was designed by Jody Sperling Design & Illustration and featured two bull horns with flames around them. This design was used until 2005 when it was replaced by another version of this same concept but with more detail added to create a much more powerful image. The colors were also updated from red and gold to navy blue and white which gave it a modern feel while still staying true to USD's traditional colors.
In 2008 another update came along as part of an overall rebranding effort for all sports programs at USD; this new logo featured three bulls instead of two with each one having its own distinct color scheme (red/gold/navy). This version continued on until 2013 where yet again there were changes made - now featuring four bulls arranged in a circle formation against what looks like waves or clouds behind them giving off strong ocean vibes that represent both San Diego's coastal location as well as its surfing culture so closely associated with Southern California lifestyles!
Finally, we come full circle back into 2020 where after 7 years without any major updates; once again there is change coming our way - introducing us all to “T-Rex”! A fierce-looking dinosaur mascot complete with sharp teeth ready to protect his territory (the court) just like any good bull would do…and he even comes equipped wearing sunglasses because hey why not?! All joking aside though this latest iteration really does capture everything about what makes up SDUSD Athletics: strength determination resilience passion pride & most importantly community spirit – something we can always rely on no matter how tough things get out there on game day or otherwise!
