Golden Gophers Alternate Logo

The Minnesota Golden Gophers have a long and storied history when it comes to their alternate logos. The first of these was introduced in the late 1960s when the school adopted an updated version of its classic “M” logo. This logo featured a bolder font with more intricate details than its predecessor, giving it a modern look that fits well with the changing times. In addition to this update, two new symbols were also added: an outline of Minnesota and two gold gopher heads facing each other on either side of the letter M.

In 1986, another major change came about for the Golden Gophers' alternate logos as they unveiled their now iconic Goldy Gopher mascot design—a golden-colored gopher wearing sunglasses and holding up his paw in victory or celebration (depending on who you ask). This image has become synonymous with both University athletics as well as collegiate sports in general throughout much of America over time; however, there have been several updates made since then which include changes such as different colors used for Goldy's fur or minor alterations to his facial features here and there over time.

Finally, just recently in 2018 yet another update was made by adding some additional elements into Goldy's design including stars around him representing all five campuses within the University system across Minnesota along with twelve stripes running down his back symbolizing all twelve varsity teams under NCAA Division I status at that particular moment (this number is subject to change depending upon any future additions/deletions from the said list). All these various tweaks give fans plenty of options whenever wanting show off their support for their beloved alma mater through apparel choices featuring one or more versions of this timeless classic!
