Hoosiers Alternate Logo

The Indiana Hoosiers have a long and storied history when it comes to their logos. The team has gone through several different iterations of the logo, each with its own unique design elements that capture the spirit of Indiana University and its athletics program. From classic designs featuring IU’s iconic cream-colored script font to more modern takes on the university's colors and mascot, there is something for everyone in this collection of alternate logos.

The first iteration was created in 1976 as part of an effort by then-athletic director Bill Orwig to create a unified look across all sports teams at IU. This version featured two crossed basketballs over an outline map of Indiana with “Indiana Hoosiers” written above it in bold typeface. This logo was used until 1996 when new athletic director Clarence Doninger replaced it with another one featuring a white block letter "I" inside a blue circle outlined by red stripes—a design that still remains today as part of many current uniforms and merchandise items produced by IU Athletics partners like Adidas or Nike.

In 2011, however, they introduced yet another variation: A navy blue shield shape containing three stars representing excellence within academics, athletics, and leadership respectively -all surrounded by four interlocking IUs (the school's initials). Although this version wasn't widely adopted due to various reasons such as difficulty producing apparel using this specific graphic element; it does remain popular among fans who seek out special edition merchandise from time to time. To date though, the most commonly seen alternate logo continues to be the original one from 1976 which can be found everywhere from t–shirts being worn around campus during game days or even on stadium signage throughout Bloomington!
