Panthers Alternate Logo
The Florida International University Panthers have a long and proud history, and their iconic logo has been an integral part of that story. For decades the panther mascot has represented FIU’s spirit and strength. But did you know that over the years there have been several alternate logos used by the university? Let's take a look at some of these interesting variations on FIU's classic design!
The first alternate logo was introduced in 2002 as part of an effort to modernize FIU’s branding. This version featured two panthers facing each other with “FIU” written between them in bold black lettering. The updated design was well-received by students, faculty, alumni, and fans alike – it still stands out today!
In 2007 another variation on this theme made its debut: a fierce orange panther head with “FIU Pumas" written beneath it in white block letters against a black background. This eye-catching graphic quickly became one of the most popular logos among Panther supporters around campus – including those who had previously favored more traditional designs like those used prior to 2002.
In 2012 yet another new logo emerged onto the scene: this time featuring only one paw raised up into the air above "Panthers," which was also written out in bold white block font against a dark blue backdrop for added effect. The single paw symbolizes both powers as well as unity within the team itself; something many fans found inspiring about the latest iteration.
Finally, 2018 saw the release fourth major redesign since the start century, adding gold accents throughout while keeping the same basic layout from previous versions intact: two powerful cats flanking the words 'Florida International University' across the middle section (though now they were colored gray). The overall response was positive, though few complained about lack of originality compared to earlier incarnations - regardless all four versions remain beloved symbols of school pride even today!
