Lions Alternate Logo
The Columbia Lions have a proud history of athletic excellence, and their iconic logo has been an integral part of that legacy. But did you know the school also has an alternate logo? Today, we’ll take a look at the fascinating history behind this lesser-known mark.
Columbia first introduced its alternate logo in 1996 when it adopted the modernized version of its mascot – The Lion King – as its official emblem. This design was created by noted graphic artist Michael Bierut and featured a regal lion standing atop two crossed swords with Columbia written across his chest in bold lettering. Although it wasn’t used on any official merchandise or uniforms until 2008, this classic image quickly became popular among fans and alumni alike due to its striking appearance and symbolism of strength and courage associated with lions throughout time.
In 2009, Columbia unveiled another new version of their alternate logo featuring only one sword instead of two crossed swords above The Lion King figure which had now been simplified into just three colors: blue (representing loyalty), white (for purity), and black (for power). This updated design was meant to convey more modernity while still maintaining traditional elements such as strong lines that evoke strength within each element included in the illustration itself like fur details around The Lion King's face or mane shape representing royalty. Additionally, the single sword is symbolic of protection over all aspects related to being part Of Team Columba - from academics to athletics.
As one can see, both versions show how much care went Into creating these logos: they are powerful yet elegant representations Of what It means To be Part OF Team Columba no matter where In life one finds themselves. Whether you're cheering them on during NCAA games or simply wearing your favorite piece Of gear adorned With either Logo - there Is no denying That being A member OF team Columbia Is something special indeed!
