Terrier Alternate Logo
The Boston Terrier is one of the most beloved and recognizable mascots in college sports, with its iconic black-and-white tuxedo pattern. The mascot has been around for decades, but its logo has changed over time to reflect the changing times. In this blog post, we’ll take a look at the history of Boston Terrier alternate logos throughout NCAA history.
The first known usage of an alternate logo featuring a Boston terrier came in 1975 when Northeastern University used it as part of its basketball uniforms. This design featured a cartoonish version of the dog wearing glasses and holding onto two basketballs while standing on top of an NU emblem that was surrounded by stars and stripes. It quickly became popular among students who adopted it as their unofficial school mascot even though they had no official affiliation with Northeastern University or any other collegiate institution at that time.
In 1985, Harvard University began using another version that featured just a headshot portrait style image instead; this one also included glasses but lacked any additional symbols or emblems surrounding it like those seen on Northeastern's original design from 1975 did have some minor differences such as having slightly larger ears than before along with more detailed eyes & eyebrows giving him/her (the gender isn't specified) much more personality compared to what we saw previously from NU's original design 10 years prior!
From thereon out various universities across America adopted similar designs including Yale (1986), Brown (1988), Tufts (1989) & MIT all utilizing variations upon these same themes creating unique takes each year until eventually settling into what would become today’s standard “Boston Terrier Logo” which features glassed donning canine looking off towards his/her left side against either red white blue background colors depending upon where you are located within America itself - thus solidifying himself/herself firmly amongst NCAA Mascot History!
