Zips Wordmark Logo

The Akron Zips have a long and storied history in the NCAA, and their wordmark logo is no exception. The current version of the Akron Zips wordmark was designed in 2006 by Joe Bosack & Co., a branding firm based out of Pennsylvania. It features an italicized “Akron” written across two lines with “ZIPS” underneath it, all set inside an orange circle with white trimming.

This design replaced the previous version which featured a more traditional serif font for both words as well as black outlining on either side of them to create symmetry within the overall design. This redesign brought about some much-needed modernity to an otherwise stale look that had been used since 1980 when they first adopted it from Kent State University which had used it since 1972 when they were known as Ohio Normal College (ONC).

The original ONC logo was actually quite different than what we see today; instead of having two separate words separated by white space, there was only one line featuring both names stacked together without any additional spacing or decoration around them - making this new iteration far more visually appealing than its predecessor! Furthermore, while Kent State kept its color scheme consistent throughout various iterations over time (black/white), Akron decided to go bolder by adding orange into the mix - creating something truly unique that stands out amongst other collegiate logos even today!

Overall, this new take on old classics has served Akron well over the past decade-plus years – providing fans everywhere with a sense of pride every time they don or wear apparel sporting iconic marks!
