Wolverines Wordmark Logo

The Michigan Wolverines Wordmark logo has a long and storied history. First designed in the late 1800s, it is one of the oldest logos in college sports. It has been tweaked over time, but its basic design remains largely unchanged to this day.

The original version of the logo featured two large M’s facing each other with a wolverine between them, representing both Michigan's mascot and state animal at once. The colors used were navy blue and yellow gold; these colors have remained consistent throughout all iterations of the logo since then as well. Over time, however, some minor changes have been made such as adjusting font size or adding additional details like stars or stripes around certain elements for added emphasis. Additionally, there was an alternate wordmark created by Nike which had more aggressive lines within it that were used from 1997-2002 before being retired due to lack of popularity among fans compared to traditional versions.

Today, the classic look still reigns supreme with most people preferring its timeless aesthetic over any modern attempts at making alterations. As such, it continues to be widely recognized across not only collegiate athletics but also popular culture in general; appearing on everything from t-shirts & hats sold online/in stores worldwide to even being included as part of video game rosters for titles like NBA 2K20 & Madden NFL 20 respectively. This legacy makes clear why many consider it one of if not THE single greatest college sports logos ever produced!
